Here at Martin Lane Farmhouse we are committed to providing a good quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.
A symbol of this commitment is our membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practices the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future generations.
We have taken some simple but effective measures to become more environmentally friendly.
- All our cleaning products and detergents are eco-friendly.
- All our towels & bedding are washed in eco-friendly powder and are dried, out in the fresh air.
- All the complimentary toiletries are eco-friendly & fair trade branded.
- All kitchen & toilet rolls are made from re-cycled paper.
- All complimentary beverages are fair trade.
- We encourage re-cycling by our guests with each cottage having its own ‘Green’ box
- We compost all green waste.
- We shred all clean paper to use as bedding for our rescued battery hens.
- Our free-range eggs and homemade chutneys are available to guests.
- All light bulbs are being replaced with low energy bulbs.
- We have planted many new trees to provide wild life habitat.
- We have constructed our own bird hide from which guests can observe our family of barn owls and the many other bird species on site.
- Walking & Cycling is promoted from the cottages with a large range of maps & information.
- We encourage guests to shop at the local farm shops and farmers markets.
We have set up water butts to collect the rainwater, which is then used to water the garden, clean dirty boots etc.
